The wilderness of Hiidenportti

In Hiidenportti you can relax and feel the nature. The heart of the national park is a rugged gorge, which is, probably one of the main nature attractions in the region. The towering walls are up to 20 m high.

The park is about 100-150 years old, and has pine and spruce forests on its area. The ground is a mosaic of swamp and dry areas of land. The park has its own hiking route, which runs along Kovasinvaara – a former farmhouse area tells the visitors about old time living in the middle of wild nature.

Hiidenportti national park is located 50 km away from Vuokatti. To reach the park follow Kuhmo and Sotkamo signs, taking the Southern road (kanatie 76). From the information centre and the parking area it’s only 1,3 km to the gorge.

Day trip to Tiilikkajärvi

Another park close to Vuokatti is Tiilikkajärvi national park. The sand shores, wildnature and wildlife, as well as open swamps, make this park a popular hiking destination. Walking on the paths in the park you can learn about the history of the region, passing, among many other attractions, Täyssinä border stone and the traditional man-built landscape of 1920s. Tiilikkajärvi is about 75 km away from Vuokatti.
