The top of Vuokatinvaarat highland ridges reveals Vuokatti and Sotkamo at their most beautiful. You can get to the top of the ridge to admire the heritage landscapes either on foot or by car.
The landscapes of Sotkamo and Vuokatti are dominated by a string of 13 consecutive highland ridges. Magnificent scenery awaits you at the top of the Vuokatinvaarat highlands overlooking numerous lakes. This scenery is renown to the extent of being placed among Finland's most invaluable national landscapes. Indeed. the Vuokatinvaarat highlands scenery was depicted on Finland's old 500 markkas banknotes.
The outlook place of the Vuokatinvaarat ridge, near the top of the ski-lifts, can be accessed by car from the south side of the road joining Sotkamo and Kajaani. In the summer, you can also get to the top of the Vuokatinvaara ridge on foot along forest trails. In the winter, the rich-in-tradition UKK Route's ski-trails also take the skier over the Vuokatinvaarat highland ridges.
