Sotkamo's Finnish baseball stadium is a place where great moments in Finnish sports history have frequently been witnessed. Located by the shore of Lake Sapsojärvi, this stadium is the home field of Sotkamon Jymy, the most successful team playing Finnish baseball, and it is decorated in the team's colours.
Sotkamon Jymy's famous baseball stadium is located by the Hiukan beach, near the centre of Sotkamo. The surface of the playing field of the stadium is of sand-and-artificial-turf, and it is violet in colour. The artificial turf installed in the summer of 2009 and bearing the colours of Vuokatti is probably the only violet turf in the world.
The home field of the most successful team playing the Finnish version of baseball has served as part of the foundation for the success of the flagship of the Region of Kainuu over a period of several years. Sotkamon Jymy one has won the Finnish baseball championship 13 times so far. During the years 1990-2010 Sotkamon Jymy missed out on a medal only twice. Lake Sapsojärvi, located next to the field, is known as the gold-medal-bathing-place of the Sotkamon Jymy team.
