



When visiting Vuokatti, one should make a special point of visiting the ski tunnel and the snowboarding tunnel. These are the world's first such constructions where winter sports can be practised throughout the year and indoors.
The world's first skiing tunnel was completed in 1997 in Vuokatti, in the vicinity of Vuokatti Sports Institute. This tunnel was built to improve the opportunities for practising skiing during the summer months. The tunnel 1.2 km long and 8 m wide. The versatile terrain contained by the tunnel offers a different of 18 m in elevation and there is a total difference of 51 m over a distance of 2.4 km, and this makes the ski tunnel suitable even for demanding practice.
The snowboarding tunnel located adjacent to Vuokatinrinteet ski-slopes enables year-round snowboarding. This, the world's first snowboarding tunnel was completed in Vuokatti at the turn of the millennium and it is 80 m long and 20 m wide. The snowboarding tunnel enables wild jumps and practising of new movement combination even in the middle of the summer. The full-length pipe built into the tunnel has an elevation difference of 19 m. The snowboarding tunnel is also available for snowtubing, an activity popular with the whole family.
