While holidaying in Sotkamo and Vuokatti, museums are also worth visiting. The history of Sotkamo has been brought together into an storehouse-museum while an old house museum can be visited at Sumsa.
Sotkamo's history is on display in an old storehouse-museum located near the centre of Sotkamo. The museum tells the story of Sotkamo from prehistoric times to the present. The museum was opened in 1951 and it has about 800 objects.
Sumsa, at a distance of about 25 km from Sotkamo, is where the Tervajärvi house museum is located. This museum comprises an old residential building, two granaries, and a luhti building. The museum is furnished in the style of the early 1950s. This farmhouse has been owned by the Heikkilä family since the 1600s. The museum was opened in 1984.
