Skiing in Vuokatti is a stunning experience. A winter's day can be enjoyably spent on ski-trails with the occasional break for a hot cup of refreshing tea or coffee, for example. Vuokatti is renown for its ski-trails among both fitness-skiers as well as competition-level skiers. The fresh air of Kainuu is good to breathe.
Vuokatti is a veritable skier's paradise. Vuokatti Sports Institute, a versatile and top-standard coaching centre, offers an excellent setting for skiing aficionados. The nearby area has approx. 100 km of ski-trails. Skiers can choose between trails emphasising uphill or downhill skiing and there is also a connecting network providing access to the other local services. The alternatives are almost endless. There is the popular trail over Lake Särkinen and there is the Aurinkolatu (Sun Trail) in the case of which the name says everything in springtime.
The lowland area has trails 3-10 km in length interspersed by fairly steep small hills. The differences in elevation are not great along these trails. All of these ski-trails are constantly well maintained and consequently they are excellent for both classic and freestyle skiing. Skiing along these trails with their excellent signposts is a pure pleasure.
The ski-trails in the highland part run among demanding but beautiful highland landscapes. The differences in elevation between these ski-trails can be as much as 165 metres, but the uphill stretches are generally not steep. There are 5-30 km of what may be called trekking ski-trails and competition ski-trails. Whatever your choice, you will have magnificent Vuokatti highland scenery to enjoy.
