Vuokatti offers unique year-round possibilities for skiing and snowboarding in the true sense of the word thanks to the world's first ski and snowboarding tunnels. Moreover, Vuokatti's snowboarding tunnel enables snowtubing, which is so popular with families.
The ski tunnel has been embedded in the ridge with classic style ski tracks located on both sides and the free-style skating track in the middle. The entrance to the 1210-metre long ski tunnel is at Vuokattikeskus, which also includes equipment rental and maintenance. The ski tunnel has been meticulously designed and built in collaboration with experts. The air exchange in the tunnel is such that it is replaced at intervals of 4 hours. The ski-track is serviced by means of machines and at night the tunnel's snow-making system forms a fresh cover of snow over the track. The temperatures of the air and snow are regulated using an IT application. The air conditioning and cooling systems keep the temperature in the tunnel normally within the range -5ºC ... -9ºC.
The snowboarding tunnel is located at the Vuokatinrinteet ski-slopes. The half-pipe snowboarding tunnel is 80 metres long and 20 metres wide, and when you reach the end of the tunnel a lift is there to bring you back up for a new thrilling tunnel adventure. The tunnel is inclined at 14º and the air temperature is -5ºC. The 10 metres high tunnel allows even the wildest jumps and tricks.
Snowtubing is also possible in the snowboarding tunnel. Snowtubing is an activity where you slide in a snow gutter supported by a tube designed for this very purpose. Originating in North America, this modern and fast-moving form of recreation has now arrived in Finland and no special skills or equipment are required. Consequently, snowtubing is the perfect activity for the entire family.
