Huskies await you the year round at the Vuokatti Husky Centre! They don't know the meaning of the words "to be on holiday". This means that dogsledding or dog-pulled cart riding are available throughout the year: in the winter sleds and in the summer in wheeled carts (Husky Mercs). There is a variety of husky safaris available, there are husky treks and dogsled rides to choose from.
You are welcome to visit the Husky Centre to learn about these people-loving husky dogs, the work they do, and the life they lead. You are free to scratch them as much as you have the strength for!
Huskies pull their sleds and carts in complete mutual understanding with the person holding the reins. They know that they are bringing joy and creating the thrill that people sense when being pulled along. The Vuokatti Husky Centre is located near the tourist centre and you can get there easily by car or by snowmobile. It is worth visiting in itself.
Tourists get to learn to know the huskies and their pups, the work that the dogs do and their life, and of course the experience of driving a team of dogs. Routes of different lengths and safaris lasting a day or even several days are available. Dogsledding is an enjoyable experience for people of all ages. You can drive a team yourself or just enjoy the ride sitting in the sled. Children, adults, adventure-seekers, and hedonists are all assured an unforgettable experience! The Husky Centre has a nice and warm guest cottage where customers can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee or (by arranging it beforehand) meals.
Huskies are also excellent companions to take along when hiking. You will be provided with a trekking belt, the husky will have a pulling harness on, and between the two of you there will be a flexible leash. The dog helps you up hills and provides an element of adventure to the trek. Guided excursions are arranged starting from Vuokatti Husky Centre and from where you want to start.
In the summer, husky safaris are provided using carts. "Husky Mercs" are a Vuokatti speciality... these are a special type of cart designed for teams of dogs to pull. They are two-seaters and the driver stands behind the cart and does the steering. Ten eager Siberian or Alaskan huskies are then harnessed to the front of the cart. Try out a husky safari on a white summer night!
